The Kennedys
Singer/songwriter duo The Kennedys return to The Burren

7:00 PM
The Burren Somerville, MA

September 9th, 2016 - 7 pm

The Kennedys are an exceptional American folk-rock band, consisting of husband and wife, Pete and Maura Kennedy.  For twenty years, they have been entertaining audiences with their music drawn from blues, roots rock, Celtic, ukulele, show tunes, bluegrass, rock'n'roll, folk-rock, blues, Appalachian style folk, gospel, country, rockabilly and jazz.  Their interpretations are unique and totally engaging due to Maura’s melodic voice, enthusiasm and soul spirit as well as the expressive, creative sounds that Pete extracts from all the many instruments he plays.  For some years, they played with and were the opening act for Nanci Griffith.  They performed for Bill Clinton's inauguration as well as at a long list of well-known venues.

The Ragbirds

The Ragbirds - a genre-bending hybrid of indie-pop melodies, global rhythms and songwriting styles.

7:00 PM
The Burren Somerville, MA

September 10th, 2016 - 7 pm

New album “The Threshold & The Hearth” debuted at #20 on the Billboard Folk Chart and #29 on Billboard’s Top New Artists Album Chart.

For years, “home” was a place The Ragbirds rarely visited. The band’s music — a genre-bending hybrid of indie-pop melodies, global rhythms and songwriting styles influenced from all over the world — was as broad as their audience, which stretched from the group’s hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the shores of Osaka, Japan (where they scored a Number One pop hot with the song “Book of Matches”). Show by show, in venues ranging from rock clubs and performing arts centers to festivals encompassing everything from bluegrass to electronica, The Ragbirds developed a well-deserved reputation as one of the most dynamic, high-spirited live bands in roots music.
Written and recorded in the wake of the birth of co-founders Erin Zindle and Randall Moore’s first child, ‘The Threshold & The Hearth’ — the band’s fifth studio album, out March 25 on Rock Ridge Music – adds another dimension to the band’s catalog.  It’s an album that explores the ways in which love and family relationships can weather the storms of life, year after year. An album that asks questions. An album that offers an answer, too: hope.

WUMB Presents, Christian McNeill

7:00 PM
The Burren Somerville, MA

September 15th, 2016 - 7 pm

Christian McNeill. Note the name. If there’s justice in the world, you’ll hear it more.”
- STEVE MORSE – The Boston Globe

Native of Derry City, Ireland, Christian McNeill is a force of alternative rock and soul, renowned for gritty and passionate live shows and songs with memorable lyrics anchored in infectious melodies. If you trace his career arc back to his early days with post-punk band, Schtum, to his most recent project, Sea Monsters, you will hear a style of singing and songwriting that is ever-evolving and always engaging. The uncompromising honesty of the song "Zero" caught the ear of Steven Van Zandt, who in turn placed two songs from the 2013 album "Everything's Up For Grabs," in heavy rotation on his globally broadcast, Underground Garage.
McNeill is a New Englander these days and resides in the Boston area, where he won "Male Vocalist Of The Year" two years running at the Boston Music Awards in 2011 and 2012.. He spent 2015 in songwriting and recording mode working on his forthcoming record, "Trapped On The Planet," which is scheduled for release in the Fall of 2016.
“Too much music today is culled from formula and false emotion. True believers need a rebirth of passion where honest feelings rule the day. We saw it in Grammy winning Adele -- and we see it in a Boston phenomenon that deserves national discovery -- Christian McNeill. Note the name. If there’s justice in the world, you’ll hear it more.”

"The Galway Girl [from Mundy’s live album Live & Confusion] is the one thing I’m sure to be remembered for. I owe a lot of that to Mundy… the biggest hit was his version. People probably won’t even remember who the hell I was, but they’re going to be singing that song in Ireland for a long time. I really do believe that. And that’s the only kind of immortality anybody can hope for." - Steve Earle

With Mundy’s brand new single ‘Shot In The Dark’, the popular artist gives us a taste of his sixth studio album, which is due for release on 10th April. Mundy has teamed up with Youth, who produced his debut album, the critically acclaimed Jellylegs in 1996. Jellylegs yielded such hit songs ‘Gin and Tonic Sky’ ‘Life’s A Cinch’ and ‘To You I Bestow’ which featured on the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet.

Gangstagrass - Bluegrass Meets Hip-Hop

7:00 PM
The Burren Somerville, MA

September 23rd,  2016 - 7 pm

Makers of the Emmy Nominated theme to the FX series, JUSTIFIED.

Blending bluegrass and hip---hop may seem like an unlikely recipe for success, but don’t tell that to Rench, the mastermind behind the Emmy---nominatedbluegrass/hip---hop outfit Gangstagrass.

Back when Rench was in grade school, recess was a time for breakdancing on cardboard to RUN---DMC.  But at home, his parents were playing Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash records on the stereo.  That musical mash up made a lasting impression on Rench, which he finally put to good use after spirited him on a journey to play country---flavored hip---hop at venues all over the globe.
